30 Artist research
1. David Hockney is a painter. He works with variety of mediums such as Acrylic, oil paint, charcoal, Ipad drawing and so on. His works convey the drama, and the splendour of nature and the sorrow of our relationship with it. He is also interested in photography, printmaking, digital media and designing.

2. Stephan Doitschinoff aka Calma is a painter, film maker and performance art. He mainly works with painting, photography and short film. His main theme is his works focuses on religions, from ars-moriendi to tibetan Buddhism to condomable religion, symbolic and spiritual art.

3. Pomme Chan is a illustrator and typographer. She works with medium such as pen pencil, ink and felt tip, and mixes different types of paper and collaged elements vintages and animal pictures. She works for fashion industries so her work is mainly about patterns and colours that she designs which could be used for printing on fabrics, scarf etc. Her work is inspired by everyday life, nature and fashion. Outside her discipline she has a great passion for fashion and working as a commercial artist.

4. Thomas Helbig is a painter and sculptor. He mainly works with oil paint and mix media. He produces figurative, abstract paintings, renewing modernist project in a new way in his work, he is recycling previously existing images, most of his work is based on the paintings he found in flec, market and paints over them to reproduce work.

5. Leung Chi Wo is a performance and installation artist. He works with photography, video, text, performance. His works are about the image and imagination of a specific urban or architectural site which he transforms into a complex network of ideas, histories. He is concerned with the undetermined relationship between conception, perception and understanding, especially in relation to site and history within the cultural and political frameworks.

6. Vincent Fecteau is a sculptor, model maker. He works with variety of medium such as rubber, band, paper, clips, seashells and string, acrylic and everyday materials. He makes sculpture and likes to work on several pieces at the same time. He spends long time staring at things trying to activate or access a feeling that somehow relate to what he is trying to make. He is more open to things but not fixed on an objective which helps him discover a more resolved piece.

7. David Noonan is an artist who works a lot with collages and screen prints. He mainly works with black and which photos from past and present. He collects old books, photos, magazines, archives, still films. Using both elements together Noonan creates dramatic scenes that suggest surreal narratives, his images shows the romanticism of golden age cinema and its association with memory. Outside his discipline he also works with a lot of photography, film and sculpture.

8. Gary Hume is an English artist/painter lives in London. He works a lot with high-gloss paint and is famous for working on all types of surfaces, such as metal, wood and so on. Series of door painting on metal by Hume suggesting the idea of reflection and emotion through high-gloss paint which reflects back to the viewer. He also makes sculptures.

9. Luc Tuymans is a Belgian painter. He mainly works with Oil paint and his work fuses the tradition of old master Flemish and Spanish genre painting with idea and images drawn from history. His subject matter is domestic interiors, common places, objects the margin of history and family portraits. He also works with film and photography and photojournalism. He is very good with films and uses film as a source of projecting images onto painting background.

10. Ai Weiwei is a Chinese artist/ sculptor. He works with wide range of medium such as sculpture, installation, architecture, curetting, photography. He is ideas and works are very political focuses on day to day politics, especially in China his home country. He also works collaboratively with other artist from around the world.

11. Lindsey Sear is an artist who works with still film. Sear creates highly personal narratives through her works; she investigates into how cinematic and photographic technologies shape us. She is using film to record her personal experiences on her life. She also makes a lot of 3D art and play a lot with light and colours through her works.

12. William Kentridge is a South African artist he experiments with painting, drawings, mix media, film animation. He produces large scales of charcoal drawings in which he combines both political with poetic; his work is often imbued with dreamy, lyrical under tones or bits of self- deprecation. He is also best known for his animated films based on his large charcoal drawings. Other then painting/drawings he also works with book, collages, sculpture and performance art.

13. Tony Bevan is an artist and he works a lot of acrylic paint. His work is characterised by the use of expensive lives and inspire with physical intensity. He is well known for his figurative work, particularly representation of human head, but he also works with architectural subjects.

14. Basil Beattie is a painter and works a lot with paint. He is well known for his abstract painting, featuring architectural structure such as stairs, tunnels etc. Typically he employs a muted plate of earthy colours and uses expressive, gesture brush Strokes. As well as being a painter, he is also a print maker, he makes a lot prints.

15. Shirin Neshat is an artist who mainly works with photography and film. She produces strong photographs and films mixing typography illustrated on most of her subject matter. In her work she explores the under laying in civilisation of power, social, cultural structure and recent political up-raising in the Arab world.

16. Harrison&Wood is collaborative artist/ film maker who works with film, Video. They have been working together since 1993 producing short films in which they perform and action or movement together. Their work is not documentation of performance but rather single screen investigation in time and space. They also do painting, drawing and sculpture in their films.

17. John Bellany is a painter who works a lot with paint. He works in an expressionist style and the imagery of his work is often derived from the sea because he was born and brought up in a fishing village near Edinburgh. Although it is transformed into a kind of personal mythologies, his most characteristic pictures are large symbolic compositions involving mix human and animal form. He uses explosive brush marks and also works with etching techniques as well as painting.

18. Anthony Eyton is a painter born and lives in UK. Eyton specialise in painting and was also in the army before he went to study art at reading university. His works combines his life experience and he travels a lot and produce works while on holiday. He looks at cities and places that he finds fascinating. He also does a lot of drawings of people.

19. Sophie Calle is a French photographer and writer. She works a lot with photography and film. She combines techniques of Voyeurism, journalism and detective work through her film, photography. She goes around and collects people’s personal belongings and look at their identity. She follows random people taking photos of them and their belongings without them knowing these. She also invites random people to sleep in her bed and she collects layers of information about these people to create an identity.

20. Erik Parker is an artist who mainly produces work using paint such as acrylic and oil. His uses of vibrant colours are so eye-catching and his visionary paintings draw their inspiration from diverse elements of American subculture. He also does a lot of drawings.

21. ED Moses is a painter who works a lot with oil and acrylic paints, and uses huge amount of paint by mixing the paint together and experiment with the idea of mark making. He paints with wide range of things such as brush, sponge, foam and so on. He uses these equipments to create patterns and shapes and if not liking that he then paints over them.

22. Trenton Doyle Hancook is an artist who mainly works with paint and collages. His works is about narrative and storytelling. The characters in his work are taken from his dream, which becomes an element in his works. I think drawings and colours are very childish and are aiming on younger audience or maybe it is from his childhood memory.

23. Patrick Boyer is a designer, graphic designer and Illustrator who mainly works with Photoshop. He uses distinct style and knowledge of the industry to develop personalised design& illustration for a wide range of clients need. 24. Gerhard Richter is a German painter who originally trained as a realist style and later developed an appreciation for more progressive work of his American and European contemporises. He employs his own painting as a mean for exploring how image that appear to capture truth prove on extended viewing. The other common theme is his works are the elements of change and the play between realism and abstraction. Richter borrows most of his ideas from newspapers and his own family album. He also works with photography and film.

25. Michael Dean is a sculptor who produces sculptures based on Poem. In which he is trying to build a sense of communication between the work and viewer. The poems are written by others which he uses a way of getting his inspirations and ideas from.

26. Pooya Razi is a painter who looks at how we accept something without having to know something about it. In the work (behind the scene) he is trying to uncover what is going on behind the scene. In his work none of his picture or the subject is staring at us, they are all covered up and facing away.

27. Erlea Maneros is a photographer who works a lot with photography. Her work is very much about reproduction and narratives. She takes pictures of the internet and photographs them. She then works onto the photos using Indian ink to create patterns and marks. Most of her works is in black and white because she find old existing photos from past. She also works with video and projection.

28. Adrien Missika is an artist who works with film and photography. He travels around European cities and is really inspired by architecture, landscape and archaeology. He contrasts his pieces using a range of well known visual symbol collected from historical works, films, comic books and postcards. He blurs the boundaries between fiction, authentic document and pure illusion. He installs his pieces using a variety of display mechanisms that create a distance between the viewer and the work.

29. Donna Huddleston is an artist/designer who mainly works with water colour and mix media. She also interested in theatre design as her work is about narrative , performance and storytelling which involves her working a lot with costume, technical drawing. She also works with sculpture and installations and most of her works are inspired by film, theatre but also interested in fashion and textiles.

Ron Mueck is an Australian artist/sculptor who uses contemporary subjects to explore timeless themes depicted throughout traditional art history, encouraging the viewer to identify with human condition.
